A masculine mask
A masculine mask symbolizing a fetishist using strong energies. This is reflected in its thick beard, which respects the energetic attraction principle in African spirituality. It is also a dance mask used by monofacial secret societies, adorned with tunics. This mask is also used in the practice of fetishism.
A mask of a woman in a state of distress
A mask of a woman in a state of distress; this symbolized, in ancient times, the suffering of certain women in a well-defined area or a woman who had lost all her offspring.
Different masks
Different masks and their symbols in Bamileke culture.
Masks covering
Masks covering the head and shoulders of those referred to as mummies in ancient Egypt. Their role was likely to preserve the heads of the deceased in the afterlife, along with the sensory organs essential for their survival. In a face that is ideally youthful and oval, the large, slightly slanted eyes impose the intensity of their gaze on society. Beyond that, the monofacial mask, deaf and mute, reflects the absurdity of life at certain moments.
