A protective staff
Object and ornament
A protective staff forming a mystical barrier on the chief’s platform called “Kápte” in the Yémbà language (spoken in the Menoua Department, Western Region of Cameroon). It is also a symbol of the group’s strength. The broomsticks, when gathered together, do not break… but when isolated, they can be easily broken.

Ancient chief

Here we have an ancient chief sitting on his throne, praying to his ancestors, judging by the position of his hands; the veil on his head is an instrument used by the ancient Bamileke chiefs during their prayers, as this veil is meant to contain the energies sent by his ancestors so that they may descend upon him for him to use to bless his people.
